Uptown

MAPLE LEAF

One of the best places to go on a Tuesday night in New Orleans. What appears to be an average dive bar features Rebirth Brass Band every Tuesday. A notoriously famous band for locals and tourists alike. They typically headline a stage at Jazz Fest every year and put on an absolutely electric show. The Maple Leaf provides an intimate showcase of their talent. It’s almost like a residency where they can practice their craft.

BRUNO'S

A local sports bar in the Uptown area. Very close to Tulane, so you get plenty of students. Loyola students enjoy the place, as well. Bruno’s also has darts and shuffleboard. If you “Check-in” on Facebook, the bar offers you a free fireball shot.

COOTER BROWN'S

Another great Uptown sports bar. Huge beer list and they serve food. Impossible to get a table during a Saints game. They offer decent oysters and better cheese fries.

THE BOOT

Tulane’s infamous college bar. It has been rated number one college bar in the nation by several impressive publications, including USA Today, Thrillist, Trip Adviser, etc. While I would not recommend this place to anyone over the age of 22 without a Tulane student to lead them through the beautiful chaos. It holds a very special place in my heart and the hearts of my former peers.

CURE

A small neighborhood cocktail bar with a plethora of elaborate drinks. The place won a James Beard Award for Outstanding Cocktail Program, god damn it. The bar itself is very ornate and well-decorated. Cure seems to have every alcohol known to mankind. Aside from every standard drink, you could want (starting at $6), the bar has around 30 permanent hand-crafted cocktails along with an additional 12 seasonal cocktails that rotate. Cure also serves food, but I would recommend just going for drinks. I recently discovered that the bar/restaurant offers a special happy hour on select nights. It goes from 12AM-2AM, and the drinks are discounted for top-shelf/luxury bottles if the bottle has already been opened. For example, attendees could sip on $6 pour of Pappy Whiskey.

SNAKE AND JAKE'S

Ahhh Snakes. One of the best shitty dive bars in the world. It looks like a bomb shelter from the outside, but it is a magical place, decorated with Christmas lights on the inside. Dogs are welcome, and it is open until the wee hours of the morning. There is always something going on here.

PHILLIPS

An Uptown bar that doesn’t get nearly enough credit. It is probably the nicest bar on Maple Street but it doesn’t get a ton of business. Regretfully so, because the place is actually clean and provides a superior ambiance. The staff could not be nicer, especially Mama who manages the places. I just discovered that they also have a beautiful patio in the back where they do taco nights.
