Central Business District

ALTO

One of the other dazzling features of the Ace Hotel. Can’t get enough of rooftops? Relax at this breath-taking rooftop pool. They offer a seasonal frozen drink that tends to be nothing short of delicious. Entry is usually $20 that counts towards a drink tab, but if the rooftop is full, you may have to wait. Located in the heart of CBD, there is an impressive view as well.

BAR MARILOU

Incredibly hip and trendy bar in New Orleans featuring red and zebra print themes. Great for drinks and small bites. I hope this restaurant doesn’t get cheesy. The bar is French and looks like the type of place where you would run into celebrities visiting the city or shooting a movie.

CHAMPIONS SQUARE

WHO DAT! New Orleans is fucking wild for the Saints and therefore, the Superdome qualifies as a drinking destination on this list. However, if a game is out of your price range, come tailgate before a game/watch it at Champion Square. You have never seen the energy that a city gives off for a team. On a separate note, it is a very cool location for one of the hundreds of festivals that occur in the city. So definitely check one out if it’s in the area.

LUCY'S

A very cheesy but fun, beach/surfrider type bar. While they do serve food, I would not recommend getting any. They do have a bunch of crazy drinks, including the famous “Scorpion shot,” which literally includes a real scorpion. I may or may not have ingested the insect. You also get a t-shirt for completing the challenge.

TECHNO CLUB

A small room, close to Republic that is half of a pizza shop converted into a warehouse techno club. It transports you to the streets of Europe. Only open on Fridays and Saturdays, but very fun if you are out late-night and want to dance and hang out with men in neon tank tops.

LOBBY BAR AT ACE HOTEL/THREE KEYS

Hotel lobby bars are often overlooked. Still, there are several in New Orleans that are highly underrated and deserve a lot of credit. One of the best is located in the Ace Hotel. (Side note: the Ace Hotel offers so many superior features however the rooms are somewhat mediocre). Once again, the bar provides top-notch drinks, many of which are seasonally rotated, not that there are seasons in New Orleans. During events, the lobby can flood with people. There is a side room with unique art. Another side room, called Three Keys, features live jazz music that bellows through the halls of the lobby. Though small, it can be quite an electric experience. There is also a hidden convention hall where I attended a movie premiere after-party and accidentally stumbled upon a hairstylist competition. There is always something going on.

W.I.N.O.

This place is a cool as hell experience. Basically, you get a cash card and a wine glass and get to try various wines out of wine vending tap machines. You can choose whether you want a taste, half glass, or full glass. After you are done, you return your cash card and pay accordingly. They also serve cheese boards and various things of that nature. The wines aren’t the best of all time, but they have a wide variety from multiple countries, which is fun if you’re in the mood to try South African or Portuguese wines, for example.

MONKEY BOARD

A rooftop bar located at the top of the Troubadour Hotel. It offers a panoramic view of the city, especially at sunset.

BARCADIA

A bar and arcade. Basically, a fancier Dave and Busters. Something different and exciting to do, close to a lot of other bars as well.

HARRAH'S

The casino of New Orleans. Like most casinos, there are plenty of freaks gambling away their life savings at all hours. As far as casinos go, it is pretty decent. They just opened a new venue called the Fillmore that has hosted some pretty big acts. The venue itself is kind of shitty and looks like a metal box; however, Harrah’s offers a solid pregame or postgame to a night out.
